1: Clothes and garbage
All the way from Chennai to Nagapattinam through Pondicherry, Cuddalore and Karaikal, I see clothes. Heaps of clothes strewn across the road like punctuation marks in a mad sentence.
From a distance, many of them look much like Mumbai's garbage dumps, splashes of colour on a dirty heap. The manpower ramp-up plans announced in quick succession by IT companies in Chennai in the last one month have set the job market on fire.
A quick back-of-the-envelope calculation, based on the announcements by several IT companies, reveal that well over 25,000 new IT and IT-related jobs will be created in Chennai over the next year or so.
